Getting Started With Online Lessons
What you need to know for your upcoming singing or songwriting lesson on Zoom
What Will I Need For My Lesson?
-
Stable Internet Connection
-
A computer or tablet with a camera (can be inbuilt or a webcam).
-
Headphones with an inbuilt microphone are helpful, ie. Apple earphones or something similar. If you don’t have these, that’s okay, as long as we can hear each other well from the inbuilt speakers & microphone on your device.
-
A separate device to play your backing tracks, eg a phone with a Bluetooth speaker. Why a separate device? Zoom calls tend to cut out the sound of your voice when the backing track is played through the same device.
-
Any sheet music or lyric materials used in lessons.
-
Some water ready in case you need it
How To Set Up Zoom for your lesson:
1. If you do not yet have the zoom app, please download the 'Zoom Client For Meetings' app here:
2. To get the most out of your lesson - zoom's audio settings must be set in a particular way.
Computer:
You may access the settings by clicking the gear/cog image on the top right side of the open & logged in zoom app.
Then follow the audio settings in the red boxes below:
Tablet or iPad:
Access settings via gear/cog image. Ensure that the 'enable original audio' box is ticked as per below:
Any Location Tips?
-
Keep your lesson environment in mind e.g. a quiet place & If possible, its preferred if students are not in their bedroom for professional practice reasons.
-
Ideally, a standing position for your lesson will be the best if you are able to do this.
-
Make sure that you can be seen well from your webcam, checking posture is an important part of lessons for the teacher.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to send a message
